Science at St Andrew’s CE Primary School
At St Andrew’s CE Primary School, we believe that science is a vital part of our curriculum, fostering a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around us. We are dedicated to nurturing and inspiring our whole school community, using love, respect, and trust as our guiding principles.
Our vision for science is to provide our pupils with a rich and engaging learning experience, where they can explore, experiment, and develop a deep understanding of scientific concepts and skills. We prioritise the use of practical, hands-on activities that allow our pupils to actively engage with the subject matter, rather than simply memorising facts.
Throughout our science curriculum, we focus on building substantive knowledge and vocabulary, using knowledge organisers at the start of each unit to ensure our pupils have a solid foundation. Our lessons begin with a ‘big question’ that sparks their curiosity and encourages them to think critically and work scientifically to find the answers.
We deliver our curriculum using;
- Practical, hands-on learning experiences
- Emphasis on developing scientific skills and disciplinary knowledge
- Termly assessments using ‘golden threads’ to track progress
- Nurturing a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world
By weaving our school’s values of love, respect, and trust into our science lessons, we aim to create an environment where every child can flourish and let their light shine. We believe that there is something wonderful to find in all of God’s children, and we are committed to helping each of our pupils reach their full potential through the study of science.
